Governator Steps into Doggy-Doo

Sandiego: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
"I realized last night that there was a mistake that I made on the budget".
It seems that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has learned quickly that you can't mess (ugh) with the nations pets. The governator did some fancy back-peddaling after stepping in it and generating a nationwide storm of protest. Reversing his decision that made it easier for shelters to 'terminate' stray dogs and cats, he reinstated the state's six-day waiting period before lost animals could be killed.

As part of his budget proposal that was first drafted in December, the governator had asked the Legislature to repeal a 1998 law that requires the shelters to hold animals up to six days before destroying them. The gov wanted to save money by cutting the waiting period in half saving local governments that operate the shelters $14 million, according to the governor's office.
